Dear Friends of Blessed Kateri,
Thanks to supportive people like you, Chicago’s American Indian community will call Kateri Center of Chicago, formerly Anawim Center since 1982; their home; their church, which is the one and only Catholic Ministry in Chicago and in state of Illinois for American Indians!
On November 1, Anawim moved from our former location on the corner of Sheridan Road and reopened in the old parish convent of St. Benedict Catholic Church. Since the first boxes were brought into the new location, Kateri Center of Chicago, prepared to start a renewed mission and vision for the American Indian community. The leadership circle and staff wanted to revision a ministry for American Indian Catholics. Now blest with a new home and a new name, Kateri Center of Chicago serves the American Indian community!
Exciting times are currently happening, and are in store, for the organization. We would like to you come visit us at 3938 North Leavitt Street, which is on the corner of Irving Park Road and Leavitt Street. Please remember Sr. Patricia Mulkey, OSF as she continues to recuperate at her motherhouse in Springfield, Illinois. Like Sr. Patricia, we would like you to remember our American Indian community in your prayers.
Along with a new mission and vision, those of who held Anawim Center close to their hearts chose to place their trust under the protection and intercession of their sister in Christ, Kateri Tekakwitha. Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha, b. 1656-1680, was a Mohawk Indian woman whom led a penitential life amongst her own people humbly trusting in her Creator God throughout the hardships and blessings in her life.
Through the intercession of Blessed Kateri, your monetary donation, and your help, American Indian Catholics can continue to gather in prayer and support one another in their daily walk. During this Advent season we remember you in prayer as we await and celebrate the birth of our poor and humble Christ. May you all enjoy a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Sincerely yours in Blessed Kateri,
Kateri Center of Chicago staff and leadership circle
